“Service Above Self; Workcamp”
This year we are heading out to Cannon Falls, MN from June 17-25.
Just a short drive—but a world away—from the exciting Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Cannon Falls is the hub of the local farming community. Centered at the confluence of the Little and Big Cannon Rivers, the area is rich in outdoor activities—biking/hiking along the Cannon Valley Trail, tubing/canoeing trips down the Cannon River, boating/fishing/swimming at Lake Byllesby Regional Park.
But the area is also rich in something else: a growing number of homes in need of repairs that elderly, low-income, or disabled residents simply cannot do for themselves. People are counting on you to restore their pride—in a freshly painted home, a new wheelchair ramp, or a sturdy safe-entry porch. You and your kids will work on homes in the town of Cannon Falls, throughout the surrounding farming area, and in nearby smaller towns.
Our local partner there is a service group comprised of leaders from all sectors of the community. Local churches, businesses, and other groups have all come together with you to build up their community in the spirit of Christian love. Everyone is excited that you are coming, and the community has already been making plans to make you feel welcome and make your time there fulfilling, productive, and comfortable!
The school: The pride of the community. Recently remodeled. Air conditioned—even the gym! And about a gazillion sparkly-clean showers. Your group will come home to comfort—after a hard day’s work, or to spiff up for a Wednesday afternoon trip to the nearby Mall of America!
At the Cannon Falls, MN Workcamp, our group will demonstrate Jesus’ love and compassion in tangible ways, serving real people in need while working on projects like…
- Building wheelchair ramps and handrails
- Weatherizing homes and trailers
- Reconstructing sagging porches
- Significant painting projects
- Interior and exterior carpentry
- Other home repair projects that the homeowner cannot otherwise complete
